| InterAct completes 7 Workshops in 2009 |

InterAct has completed 7 partner workshops this year covering a diverse range of topics that included: Explosives and explosives detection, Molecular detection, Chemical detection, Business Development Managers Forum , Antibody-based detection, Personal protective equipment and Proficiency testing and reference materials. Not only have the workshops led to a number of new commercial opportunities being identified, but they have also highlighted a number of potential cross-Partner non-InterAct projects (e.g. possible research collaborations with no commercial offering) and have also allowed the individual Partners to identify specific opportunities to take forward outside the auspices of InterAct. |

| InterAct Workshop at Unico conference |

InterAct organised and hosted a workshop at the annual Unico meeting held in Brighton. The aim of the workshop was to provide a forum for PSREs to discuss their commercialisation activities and issues specific to PSREs. The format of the workshop was a mix of presentations, group discussions and networking opportunities. The event was attended by 30 participants from 26 PSREs and associated organisations. |

The InterAct Partnership was represented at the annual BIO meeting in Atlanta, May 18-21 2009. The event was used to meet prospective partners for licensing opportunities. |

| InterAct presents at NZ Bio Conference |

InterAct took part in the UKTI Trade Mission to New Zealand and secured a keynote presenting session at the NZ Bio conference. The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight partnering and collaboration opportunities to companies and research institutions in New Zealand. |

| InterAct Proof of Concept Fund |

InterAct manages a £1.5 million Proof of Concept (POC) Fund. A first investment round was held in December 2008 where funding was approved for four projects. A second investment round will be held this month where a further six projects will be assessed for possible funding. Projects funded to date include: a new molecular detection platform and assays; the development of new reference materials to provide additional commercial reagent opportunities; and validation of an improved glove for dangerous chemical handling. Projects can involve other academic/government laboratories as well as collaborative projects with commercial companies. |

| InterAct Workshops |

InterAct is organizing a series of workshops over the next three months to bring together key scientists and business development managers form across the six partner organizations. These workshops are an effective forum to explore synergies and identify potential commercial opportunities that can be created by combining know-how, facilities and registered IP. They also act as a forum for government scientists working in common technical fields to exchange information and ideas as part of their core government delivery functions. The workshops include:

InterAct exhibited at the annual AUTM conference in Florida, USA. This event presented an opportunity for InterAct to meet with licensing managers from potential partner companies as well as opportunities to meet other research organizations, particularly US Federal Laboratories, that may have synergistic IP.
